What is a ship name between two people?
A ship name is one blended name made from two people's names, used as shorthand for the pair. "Ship" here comes from "relationship." Nothing nautical about it. Brangelina is the textbook receipt: Bra- from Brad, -ngelina from Angelina, seam shown.
That's the whole form: front piece, back piece, one new word. A couple ship name works exactly the same way, and so does a pair of fictional characters. The blend doesn't care who the names belong to.
How are ship names made?
Three rules make a blend work. The generator applies all three and shows its reasoning; you can apply them by hand:
- Take a front piece of one name and a back piece of the other. The front carries one name's opening sound; the back carries the other's landing.
- Land the seam on a syllable boundary you can say out loud. Bra|ngelina passes because both pieces end and begin at syllable edges. If you stumble saying it, the split's wrong.
- Keep both parents recognizable. Each source name should contribute at least two letters. A blend whose parent you can't name is just a new word.

What are good ship names?
